Stone Circle¶
The Stone Circle, also known as the Stone Council, was the council of Wizards that originally helped build the Deeptower, moving their base of operations into the Hall of the Watchers once construction was complete during Heraldius II's reign. They studied Magick through runic stones, known as Stones of Power, through which they made miracles possible.
Stones of Power¶
In the world of Dragonstower, every stone has an inner Magick structure whose properties can be accessed by carving a rune upon its surface. This is much like how the copper interconnects of integrated circuits form a beautiful pattern upon the silicon chips within our PCs, enabling the real-world form of wizardry: programming. Instead of copper, Stones of Power have infinitesimally intricate stone carvings that access the base power of the material. When a user imposes their will upon the Stone, it manifests a most powerful and potent Magick.
This was all discovered by cloistered elves of a bygone age. They possessed the perception, skill, and patience to spend centuries creating each Stone of Power. However, afraid that this power would be misused, the elves hid the Stones in their secluded vaults. These Stones would be rediscovered eons later after the last elf had departed into the Spirit Plane.
These Stones were made infamous during the Stone Wars, where warring kingdoms used these Stones to wage war. As the arms race to acquire more Magick Stones ramped up, a coalition of Stone specialists conspired to regulate the usage of Stones of Power and to gather them for better study. They leveraged their ability to wield Stones better than anyone else, threatening mutual destruction, to accomplish their goals. This coalition became known as the Stone Circle.
Stones of Power are not present in Deeptower. They were deemed "unimportant to the whole of the story" when games like these live and die by their detailed worldbuilding. I can hardly imagine The Lord of the Rings without the description of the Rohirrim's lineage.
Hierarchical Structure¶
The Stone Circle has a strict hierarchy amongst its members, defined by a title that precedes their name. From most to least powerful, the titles are:
-
High Stoned
-
Archmason
-
Wythed
-
Abutment
-
Mortar
-
Pebble
